~*~ A little bit about me ~*~

 

Briefly scan the life story of RIMA RASHIDI. Of Ceylonese ~ Malay ~ Chinese parentage , Rima was born in Ipoh,Perak on February 18th. 1972. She's independent , ambitious and likes taking risks in anything she ventures. She's not afraid to tread new ground , determined to explore the world of popular music and to steer her career back to her long-time goal , singing.


Education was of primary importance in young Rima's life. Graduated her A-Levels in Singapore and holds a Diploma in Travel , Tourism & Hospitality. Did her music studies in organ , drums and vocal at the Hammond Academy of Music and Classicomm Vocal Studio. Rima is emphatic on the need to be dedicated to music and yet have fun with it. Artistically , she doesn't really think about boundaries in music.

Rima's big break came when Sony Music Malaysia's , General Manager Mr Rick Loh signed her on in 1992 and released her second solo album entitled "Engkau Yang Pertama" (You're The First) incorporating hits like "Kasih Berbunga Lalang" and "Maafkan Aku Insan". Her third album "Kasih Ku" (My Love) was released in 1994 and somehow managing to combine sexy looks with wholesome image and awesome musical talent. Music has been her number one passion and currently working on her self-produce album. She's into song writing and music arrangements as well. She has so many things to say and said it in her songs. It has become her voice.


Not content with her musical career alone,Rima went into acting at the age of 14 by getting cast in a box-office comedy movie in Malaysia "Mr Os" which earned her a nomination for "Best Supporting Actress" in the 1987 Malaysian Film Festival. Rima's movie career continued with second film , "Tuah" (Luck). Through "Tuah" she was selected to represent Malaysia to the 1st Malaysian Film Week in Tashkent~Uzbekistan in Russia and was nominated "Best Promising Actors"~Malaysian Artiste Category at the 35th Asia Pacific Film Festival held in Jakarta , Indonesia.

From there her acting career took off. She ventured into television at first doing entertainment programmes on Malaysia & Singapore television stations before progressing to local Malay dramas/TV series and finally TV Movies.


She's already stepped into the theatre world with two bit parts in "Raja Lawak" (Comedy King) and "Teman" (Companion) both directed by Mr Zakaria Ariffin. Many more roles came after that. Recently Rima took up a role playing a cheap prostitute in the first ever 18SX rated malay stage play "LORONG" (Lane). Many was surprised by her acting in this piece. For her excellent performance in "LORONG" she personally received compliments from Malaysian Trade Minister Dato' Seri Rafidah Aziz and multiple award winning actress and her idol Madam Azean Irdawaty. Not forgetting good reviews by the local press whom finally recognised her potential in acting.
